New York City Was Hot!

I have always experienced New York as a magical city and this trip only reinforced that. I was in town for the Integrative Healthcare Symposium. As I sat in the sessions I was reminded of the declining state of health in America.

There are some shocking statistics (did you know that the prevalence of diabetes is projected to increase by 54% between 2015 and 2030? Did you know that 1/5 of Coca Cola's annual revenue comes from food stamps?).

In the midst of many statistics like these, there is also hope. In small pockets everywhere, Americans are starting to take back their food supply by voting with their dollars. They are also taking back their health by using more functional medicine doctors and alternative approaches instead of just accepting another prescription.

Sometimes we keep just skating around the circle, pushing ourselves through life, ignoring signs that our body is trying to tell us something.  When the ice has melted enough that skating becomes impossible, this is often the time that people seek help.

In my office this could be someone whose anxiety has finally rendered them incapable of functioning, or someone whose substance use has crossed a dangerous line, or, someone who is flunking out of college because they never addressed their ADD.

Don't wait until there are more puddles than ice to listen to what your body is telling you.
